Orchestra launches appeal for violinistsSolihull Symphony Orchestra's oldest and youngest members appealed this week for more violinists to join them. George Newns (right, 92) has been with the orchestra since its foundation while Daniel Hurst (centre, 15), a student at Solihull School beacame a member more recently. Music Director Martin Leigh (left) said "Neither George nor Daniel are planning to leave in the near future, but the orchestra would very much welcome more string players. If you played the violin in the past, why not try it again this New Year?". Rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings at Christ Church, Warwick Roadl in preparation for the next concert on Saturday 1 March in Shirley Methodist Church. The programme will include Dvorak's 8th Symphony and Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme. For more information, ring 0121 745 5548. |
